About

Welcome to Wild Child Retire!

What is Wild Child Retire?

WIld Child Retire is a blog about achieving financial independence, retiring early(F.I.R.E) and living a healthy, low-stress life.

Why choose the name Wild Child Retire?

It came from our children.

My wife and I were on day two of brainstorming for a website name.  We were in the bedroom cleaning and all of a sudden my children(3 yr boy, 5 yr girl) came busting in the room!

They embodied everything that a financially independent retiree should be:

  • HAPPY
  • CAREFREE
  • FULL OF ENERGY
  • EXCITED FOR LIFE
  • CURIOUS FOR ADVENTURE
  • A BODY THAT CAN RUN, JUMP, AND PLAY!

Our kids wake, EVERYDAY, excited for life.

They wake up and their main mission is to HAVE A BLAST.

That’s it.

That’s what life and retirement should be about.

That’s what we want our blog to embody.

That’s why we chose Wild Child Retire.

How did we meet?

The Military. We were both stationed in Alaska.

Ahh yes, I remember like it was yesterday.

There I was in the dorms for single military folks just entering the military.

I was in the common area watching T.V. and eating a delicious lunch from the chow hall. (Probably burgers and fries, bad habits back then 😊).

I take a big glutenous bite, take an exhausted seat back, belly peeking out the bottom of my shirt, full chill mode, and what do I see walking down the hallway?

A gooooorgeous angel, looked like she was floating on about an inch of air.

It seemed as if time slowed down as she moved past me.

I quickly sat up, put my gut away, wiped the grease off my face and sweat off my forehead and said, ”What’s up?”😎

Boom, done.

My game was SOOOOO STRONG back then.💪

She was soon my girlfriend and then a little while after that we got married.

Best decision of her life. 😁

Why did we decide to pursue Financial Independence?

It was June 2018, my beautiful baby boy Charles Jr. was born.

He was so strong.

If you have ever let a child grip your fingers you might say, “Yeah, yeah Charles, all babies are strong.”  And that statement does hold true.

But there was something special about that grip…I mean…he gripped it like he was trying to tell me something…

Two days later, around 3 AM my wife and I were in the hospital room.

The wife is doing the mandatory post-recovery days in the hospital, I was doing the supportive husband thing, and the nurses were doing their routine health monitoring for the Mom.

They usually stop by every couple of hours after delivery…

But this one was different…

I was awakened from my sleepy state by a room full of nurses, not just the usual one…

I wasn’t really all there. I was kinda like, “Okay another round of health monitoring tests then back to sleep.”

But I quickly realized that they were there for a different reason.

They brought a team of maybe 10 people, to deliver bad news.

They had told us that our beautiful baby boy, at just 2 days old, was dropped by one of the nurses.

I was still in a tired and confused state but quickly as I sobered up I began to ask questions:

“Is he okay?

“Where is he?”

“Who did this!?”

Come to find out, he had a cracked skull, had multiple seizures, and was bleeding near the brain.

That day felt like a whole year went by.

He was transferred to multiple different hospitals, prepared for surgeries that we were told may or may not happen.

We were never clearly advised on how he was doing.

There was one point where I was so frustrated and had to ask the hard question…

“Is my child going to live?”

The doctor looks at me and pauses…

“I can’t tell you that…..”

Time stopped…

My beautiful baby boy, who I got to hold maybe a handful of times, may die…

Tears poured out of me until I couldn’t even breathe…

My wife was holding her precious son, brushing his soft hair, as he lay there unconscious from all of the drugs he was given…

I sobered up and realized what the doctors were saying…

The bleeding near our son’s brain may be getting worse so they need to rush him to another hospital for possible surgery.

So as my wife sits in the hospital chair, holding her baby boy that is wrapped in wires, I tell her,” Tell him you love him…give him a kiss…we have to go…”

Knowing that she may never see her son again…she does so…

Fast forward…

Charles Jr. made a full recovery.

He is now a 3-year-old toddler monster child😊.

I look back at that grip, my little man was trying to tell me that everything was gonna be okay😊.

That incident changed my life…

I dropped my college plans and focused on what could pay me now, opposed to later.

I then focused on real estate.

We soon opened up a business and bought multiple properties.

I realized life is too damn short to work until 65 in a cubicle.

I want to spend time with my beautiful children and wife.

I want to LIVE NOW.
